Honest Thief

Honest Thief is an action movie in the spirit of Tekken, but with the same actor and similar script. When a thief decides to return all the money he stole to make amends and rejoin society to be with the woman he loves, a pair of crooked FBI agents decide to steal the money instead and frame him for murder. However, they don't expect him to have a special set of skills that he will use to get revenge on them. Tom (Liam Neeson) is a bank robber known as the "ruthless bandit" for his ability to rob banks and steal huge sums of money. without hurting anyone or getting caught. When he falls in love with compassionate secretary Annie (Kate Walsh) at a public storage facility, he decides he wants to turn himself in for his crimes, offering to return all the money he stole in exchange for a reduced sentence so he can live the rest of his life with Annie guilt-free. One of the major obstacles to their relationship is that Annie doesn't know exactly what Tom's past is. Two FBI agents come to collect the cash and help facilitate Tom's arrest. But Agent Nivens (Jai Courtney) and Agent Hall (Anthony Ramos) see an opportunity and make a last-minute decision to steal the money for themselves, framing Tom for the murder of another FBI agent who shows up on the scene. With Tom on the run, he must do everything he can to set things right, trying to bring justice to the rogue FBI agents while trying to clear his name and keep Annie out of it.

Directed and co-written by Mark Williams (Ozark, Family Man) there is little anyone can do to bring flat characters to life. The lead kidnapper is already honest to the point of guilt, so there's little Tom can do to redeem himself. By offering to return the money, he opens the door to all kinds of new violence and chaos that will involve Tom, Annie, and a host of good and bad FBI agents. There's the obvious choice of not exploring the emotions or guilt that create so much turmoil in the world, and Williams doesn't force his cast to deal with any discomfort other than the physical. Although there are really honest elements in Honest Thief, such like the sweet romance between Tom and Annie, or the pressure to do the right thing despite the consequences, too much plays out exactly the opposite: good guys are really bad people. , and the bad guy is a really, really good person who didn't actually even want the $9 million he spent ten years of his life stealing from 12 different banks. Even the educated, nearly college graduate he has a crush on can't think of anything smarter to say about Tom's past than "knowing how to blow things up is pretty cool." After watching many explosions without any emotional investment in characters, blowing things up isn't that cool. But the resolution of the entire last third of the film in one long car chase, explosion, shootout, fist fight may be the entire point of the film. Unfortunately, the biggest plot hole is that if Tom really didn't care about all the money he stole, and it was just out of principles instilled in him by his own family, then he sacrifices not the money, but his own principles for the sake of blow. in creating an honest family with his new relationships. This sounds clearly dishonest. "Honest thief" - action movie mac and cheese, fills the comfort food, which predictably serves as a dose of Liam Neeson confidently taking revenge on some baddies. Explosives, murder and mayhem are barely contained by the PG-13 rating.
